Hi Angela, Some good places to check out for the nightlife are Calle Alfalfa, which is a big spot on a little street that all of the locals go to. If you want to mix it up with more internationals, head to Calle Betis. There are some cheap bars there like Big Ben and Fundicion. Another places locals hang out is near Plaza Almeda.
For great, cheap tapas head to Antigua near Plaza Nueva. Basically, the entire city is full of life and energy, so you will definitely find a good time. Have fun there.
If you want to keep track of how I'm doing in Ecuador, check out my blog, the link is in my profile. I won't be able to update it much for a while as I'm heading down there tomorrow and won't have internet for a while. Take care.

Profile Full Bio
About me
I am a freelance writer and jeweller. I write mostly for blogs and magazines, and am priveledged to be able to write about almost anything that takes my interest, although I am a regular contributor to blogs about jewellery, weddings and writing.
Why I travel
I adore learning about new places. I love the idea that the way I live my life isn´t the only option. I am fascinated by the things that different cultures find important.
Travel style
I'm an organized traveller. I like to travel armed with itinerary, maps, bookings and a full stack of luxuries in my luggage. That said, once my bag is safely in my hotel room, I can wander around aimlessly for hours, just following my nose to find places that are only known to locals. I love quirky, out of the way places that offer an authentic feel of a region. There aren´t too many unexplored corners of the globe left, but the world is always changing so we never follow exactly in one anothers' footsteps.
I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when
I ate at an Appleby restaurant in the US. Not sure what that says about me, or the US culture?
Let's collaborate
If you are looking for articles about what it means to live in Spain, I am happy to talk. I am also always on the look out for great photographers around Spain, or other travellers who have been where I haven´t.
Favorite artist(s)
Fragonard, Richard Wawro
Sports I do
Don't make me laugh! Snorkelling is about as sporty as I get.
I want to make a difference by
Setting an example. Taking responsibility for my own actions. Inspiring people to go after their dreams.
Tunes I rock out to
Alison Kraus to soothe my nerves and break through writers block; just about any other kind of music at other times.
Favorite books
The Sparrow, Dangerous Liasons

I love Spain in Spring. The mild weather, with it's cool breezes, fresh air and warm sunny skies spread over the early part of the year making everything seem somehow peaceful. When the sun breaks through, temperatures can reach the early 20's, but storms can still sweep in...

Vacation Destinations for Star Signs
I am writing a tongue-in-cheek series of articles over the next four days looking at which types of vacations suit each star sign based on their element - water, earth, air or fire.
Do Pisces really...

Christmas is over for another year in Spain - finally. Not that I don't love the holiday season here, but it does tend to last much longer than in many other countries due to their celebration of the coming of the ...

I love market days. Almost every town has it’s own market, with stalls crammed full of fresh, local produce. Whatever fruits and vegetables are in season are in abundance, at incredibly low prices. There are vans loaded with smoked and cured fish, cheese and ham, and other...

It seems like every nationality has their own holiday stereotype. Germans get up at ungodly hours to put their towels on the best sunbed locations to reserve their spot; the Japanese snap photographs of anything and everything; the Americans talk loudly and can´t understand why the...

Summer usually arrives overnight on the Spanish Costas. One week the beaches will be dotted with local residents enjoying the warmer weather, and then suddenly, one weekend, you will find hundreds of tourists crammed together under a sea of umbrellas and...

Last night, Spain won the Euro Cup. It was the national team's first football victory in over 44 years.
Since getting through to the semi finals,
Spain has gone football mad, and although I am too tired after my late night celebrations to do a full write up today...

Well, those feet are itching again, and it is now confirmed that I will be moving again, this time to New Zealand, after 12 - 18 months in Scotland to deal with the red tape and paperwork of setting up my business there. It is a bittersweet thing, saying goodbye to a...

Food and drink play an integral part of the Spanish culture, just as they do in most countries. The Spanish love nothing more than meeting in large groups at restaurants and cafés to pick over a wide array of tapas dishes and talk (loudly).
The home cooked meal is...

I adore Spain. I have been here just over two years, and it feels more like home than any other place I have been.
I love the people, the food, the siestas, the fiestas, the scenery. I even love the six day work week.
Yet I had never wanted to come to Spain. My...
