Hi! I LOVED Colombia (wrote a few blogs about it and wrote on my own website, too: www.collazoprojects.com). If you're headed down there, don't hesitate to get in touch with ricardo_emp (Matador member); he owns a hostel in Mompox and knows the country well. He also just recently published an article about 10 reasons why it's safe to go to Colombia, which you can read here:

If you ever decide to go to Cuba, let me know- my husband's family lives there and I've been several times so can offer recent, local advice.

Peace, Julie

Hi there! Thanks for sharing your link about Bahia - I can't wait to read it all!! I didn't realize you volunteered through CCS... I considered them as well a couple of years ago!! But it was expensive so I changed my mind... How much was your package if I may ask? Maybe I need to rethink CCS...

Welcome to Matador! I love Zap Mama. Also, if Colombia's still high on your travel to-do list, let me know; I'm just back from there. Matador will also be publishing a couple of articles about Colombia this week on our other blogs.

Peace, Julie

Hi there! I just joined recently and read your profile. I'd love to hear about your volunteering in Salvador, am dying to go to Bahia...is it safe solo? or is it pretty much like anywhere? (I started solo travel in 2005 and I love it).

About me

I once received a fortune cookie fortune that said, "Your feet will touch the soil of many different countries." Of course it's the one of the best fortunes I've ever received ;) I have had great opportunities to travel in my life, but more recently, I try to create my own opportunities to see the world and experience it in different ways. I feel blessed to have had many amazing travel experiences and it's exciting to know that there is so much more of the world to explore...

My memorable experiences include: - Visiting relatives and friends in Ghana (I'm Ghanaian-American) - Touring as a backup singer in California, Hawaii and Europe - Volunteering in Salvador, Brazil - Backpacking in Southeast Asia

Ideal place to watch the sunset

Anywhere, really. I've seen many great ones and can't think of just one that stands out as the best!
