In the north west of Rome the harbor of Civitavecchia is bringing more people every day into the Eternal City. The harbor is far from Rome only one and half hour but the real deal is how to organize a good tour of Rome optimizing the limited time at disposal.
First of all, afterknowing that it's better to visit the Vatican in the early afternoon, due to the new entrance rules, it's good to start the full day Rome tour from the ancient part of the Eternal City. You can go around the Roman Forum and the Colosseum keeping in mind also that the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps are close one to each other.
After a quick lunch at 1.45 pm it's better to start going to the Vatican and to visit the Sistine Chapel with the frescoes of Michelangelo, because after the Chapel where the Conclave is held, the visit keeps going visiting the Swiss Guards and the biggest church in the world, Saint Peter's Basilica located in the Vatican City.
