Five of the Best Green Spaces in Paris
Promenade Plantée
Located above the Viaduc des Arts, the Promenade Plantée is a 4.5 kilometer elevated walkway, covered in flowers and greenery. Once an above ground railway, the walkway follows Avenue Daumesnil, allowing you to easily traverse the 12e arrondissement while enjoying a moment of natural beauty away from the crowded Parisian streets. The promenade is a collection of carefully planted flowers, wild growing vines and reflecting pools, complete with plenty of benches for resting your legs or eating a picnic of baguette and brie.

Montmartre Vineyard – Le Clos Montmartre
Only in France is one able to find a functioning vineyard right in the middle of the city. Located in Montmartre, the vineyard is a calming space, surrounded by the beautiful hilltop houses of this famous arrondissement. With the white dome of Sacre Coeur rising in the background, this Clos Montmartre is a little taste of countryside France in the city. The vineyard is owned by the city of Paris and money made from wine goes back into social projects focused around the 18e arrondissement.

Maison Paris-Nature in Bois de Vincennes
If you like to not only be surrounded by flora and fauna, but also learn about it, the Maison Paris-Nature should be on your Parisian to-do list. The maison is situated in the green oasis of Bois de Vincenne’s Floral Park, full of bright hues and intense fragrances. For summertime visitors, be sure to check out the seasonal butterfly garden, where the colorful insects occupy a well-maintained floral garden.

Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil
Like many destinations in Paris, the land of Jardin des Serres d’Auteuil was originally established as a botanic garden by Louis XV. A promenade in the garden will put you in the midst of its 19th century architectural charm and wind you through the pathways covered in exotic flowers and trees from around the world. If your French is up to par you can even take a gardening class.

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont
The largest of Paris’ public parks, Buttes-Chaumont tantalizes both hikers and daydreamers. This is not your average park à la francaise, and with its spontaneous design, Buttes-Chaumont provides a good break for those fed up with the typically French groomed parks found throughout the rest of Paris. Because of the diversity of vegetation and the use of color, the park is said to feel like a Jean-Jacques Rousseau painting, inspiring the artist within any visitor.
