Eats

Laurie's Vegetarian take away on Bondi Road, get the soy burger. It comes with the best slaw ever and should be ordered with sweet chili and guac. Get your grub take away and chow down on the grass overlooking the beach just down the hill.

Nightlife

Three Wise Monkeys downtown is super fun, 3 levels of bars and music. Pretty much can't go wrong. There is also the Establishment on George St. which has hot bartenders in school girl outfits that have some amazing bar tricks. Really fun afterwork crowd of men in suits, meaning free drinks for the ladies! For the less dressy nights, (the previous bars require nice shoes and collars) try the Bondi Hotel. Cheap beer, pool tables, and a juke box. Don't forget to get a late night Kebab on the way home. Oh, how can I forget. Kings Cross! Always a good time in the Red Light district, always.

Best neighborhoods

Glebe is a really cool hippie neighborhood with a killer flea market. And Tamarama, right smack btwn Bondi and Coogee beaches is the secret gem of the coast. Great surf, mostly locals, and a rocky coastline like you have never seen.

Sporting

Surf, surf, surf.

Must See

The Botanical Gardens. They are huge, and always beautiful no matter what time of year. Oh, and they are FREEEEE! Check out the fruit bats, crazy plants, and at around 2pm each afternoon there are crazy birds you can feed. They will walk all over ya.

Places to meet local people

Oxford Street. Great shopping. Also go to an Aussie Rules match. Tourists can also pay a few quid extra and you can be escorted to the game with a local who will explain the rules, which are a bit different from rugby. A pint of beer included.

Transportation

Take the bus, everywhere. It runs all night long, unlike in the states, and is super cheap. If you can manage it, buy a cheap car too. Its worth the money to have a way around to explore the city, and registration is cheap.

Safety

Overall, safety is not an issue at all. In certain neighborhoods like Kings Cross, the nighttime hours can be a little shady. Just stay on the beaten path, and make sure to keep with a buddy and you will not have any problems.
