Five years ago, I moved house and home to Merida on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. Five years of living later, and here I am: an expert! I think I know more about this area than I do about my homeland in California. It's amazing how changing countries can shake up and enrich your life! I recommend it to anyone...

About me:

Since I could walk I've been walking as far away from home as possible, just to see what was around the next bend. I love to move, to travel, to explore... and I love to come home and rest. I'm passionate about the planet (a geography major in college), about trees, animals and sometimes humans.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

I lived there... I'm living in a foreign culture. It's been five years now. I guess I feel the most immersed when we go to visit our Mayan friends in their pueblo home.

I‘m in Venezuela. What part of the Yucatan are you living in? I was there last summer and loved it. One question I didn‘t find and anwer to when I was contemplating living in MX is how to make a living there. Any tips? Your photos are beautiful, Elizabeth

Merida's City Zoo

In 1910, the city fathers took some of the millions of dollars that were swirling around this city and built a zoo. It opened during the Mexican Centennial (100th Birthday of the Republic) so it is called the Parque Zoologico del Centenario (Zoological Park of the Centennial).
