Favorite places I've been:

Belize - we stayed at a jungle lodge and went tubing through caves, past walls glittering with crystals and climbed up waterfalls to find ancient mayan artifacts. It was amazing.

I also spent a year in Kenya, which was pretty awesome too.

Places I want to go to:

Bhutan, anywhere in southeast Asia, Japan, back to New Zealand, Peru, Ecuador, anyplace I haven't been yet and some that I've already visited.

About me:

I just graduated from college with a major in enviornmental studies/biology, but the field I'm most interested in is photography. I would love to be able to travel around the world and just take pictures and get paid for it. I'm also discovering that I really like writing, creative non-fiction stuff, so I'm working on a few pieces right now.

Other stuff about me: I love yoga, being outside, organic farming, coffee, animals, cooking, photography, reading... i'm sure i'm missing some things...

I'm fired up on:

I'm most interested in traveling and taking pictures, but I'm also a pretty big conservationist. I love nature, so I try to conserve it as much as I can and I get fired up when I see other people littering or intentionally harming it. I'm also a vegan (while I'm in the states... it's pretty hard to keep up while travelling), and I love to cook for my friends to prove that vegan foods can be tasty if made right. I used to do a lot of yoga and I still love practicing, but I haven't had much time in the past few months. I'd like to get back into it though.

Tunes I rock out to:

Carbon leaf is awesome - for those who have never heard them, you should pick them up... they're kinda irish rock/alternative, but so good! I also like Jack Johnson, John Butler Trio, U2, REM and a lot of other random stuff. Jason Levasseur is really good too, if you're looking for some more good music.

Travel style:

An open mind is the only way to go.

I want to make a difference by:

Bridging the culture gap and stereotypes between people throughout the world. I think in our day of age, the hypothetical impressions that are created by higher officials (ahem... bush), generate feelings of fear and animosity between cultures that are based on false impressions. By travelling and actually getting to know different people and how they live, we can break these barriers and realize that even though our two cultures vary in multiple aspects, we're still all human and we still have the right to live our lives the way we choose.

Languages spoken, other than English:

Espanol, un pequito... muy pequito & a few words and phrases of Kiswahili

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

When I was sitting on a wooden stool in the middle of a Masaai boma, with only acacia trees and termite mounds on the horizon. Goats were parading past me, herded by Masaai men and the women were sitting beneath a tree, babies wrapped in colorful sarongs and slung over their shoulders. Mud huts were emitting curls of pungent black smoke from the tiny square windows and fresh cow's milk, loaded with sugar, sat simmering over a fire, waiting to to be poured into the metal cup dangling from my fingers.

Why I travel:

Before I die I'd like to:

Be published in National Geographic, island hop in the south pacific, live off the land for a year, build a house off the grid, learn to cook really good thai, speak another language fluently, the list goes on an on...
