About me:
I'm a contributing editor of Matador Trips - if you're new here, WELCOME!

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, I got caught up in a cushy 9-5 job for a large corporation for 11 years. It took meeting my wife to escape the cubicle and I've never looked back.

After discovering the wonders of vagabonding (mostly due to the book Vagabonding) I've changed my entire outlook on life and what's important. Now living in Melbourne, I'm taking a break from traveling and just settling in for a little while.

I want to learn to play the drums. I want to write more. I'm interested in so many things I can't keep it straight and never end up doing anything for a sustained period...but I'm trying to change that!

That's cool. Beer is greatness. What's your favorite? I actually grew quite fond of 4X.

HAHAHA. Yeah. Sadly I've learned to embrace the nerdy side of my life just to allow me to have fun. Thanks so much for the welcome message. I hope you're having a wonderful winter in Melbourne. I've always loved Australia so much so that I actually slipped my resume under every door at the Cisco offices in Sydney a few years ago. Sadly no jobs for me yet but one day!

Thanks for all the warm welcome wishes. You guys rock! Have a great one! Have you done any of the wine tastings in Melbourne?

Hi Carlo! Thanks for the welcome. You're my first friend here on Matador. I just discovered the site a few weeks ago and I'm following on Twitter, as well. Love reading the articles, and also looking forward to meeting other people in the community.

There's a ton of photos from my travels at my website, if you're interested:

Thanks again!

hi

You were the third person to respond to my setting up a profile! So I wanted to make sure you know that I've published my first ever travel article. I'm really excited that it got posted to the home page of matadornetwork.com. Please read the article

http://www.bravenewtraveler.com/2009/06/16/close-encounters-reconnecting-to-animals-through-our-primitive-nature/

please send it around to anyone who you think may be interested

and please please if you have a response, post it under "comments" where the article is. I'm going to pitch to the editors an idea for a series, so readers responses and support will make a big difference.

Thanks!
Azriel

Is anyone else getting sick of these terms? Urban has been around for a while: Urban Fare, Urban Deli, Urban Burgers, Urban Pizza, Urban Furniture, Keith Urban.

Boutique is a little newer. First you had your boutique hotels, then boutique hostels, and for the first time I saw the term "boutique...

I went out last night. A rare event indeed, now that I'm too old for that. Anyway, it started with some innocent post-work drinks with my wife and some of her colleagues, which expanded when their friends started showing up. As the drinks flowed, the dancing shoes started waking up so we left and found...

It's not the first time and -- barring a total boycott of Lonely Planet (unlikely) -- not the last time that LP has sent me on a wild goose chase.

They've launched a new promo in Australia -- Sydney and Melbourne to be exact -- where you can win a $1100 Jetstar flight voucher. LP has hidden their...
