I can't wait to go back and drive the ring around the island, camping along the way. Maybe next summer.

Hey thanks for accepting. Well Ive come to a lot of conclusions both good and bad. I think humans at the moment are too caught up in competing with other countries and playing cultural games that we cant spend enough money in research to get us off the planet before its too late. But there is becoming a large rise in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. The onset of quantum computing would create a computer comparable to a computer of today but the computer would be the size of the universe. If we were able to create a quantum computer and give it a advanced form of artificial intelligence it would practically solve all our questions for us. I'm afraid though that with the onset of the computing countries will use it for war. NASA admits they believe we wont survive and we will jettison a monolith of all our known knowledge far into outer space out of the reaches of any gravity. I have higher hopes though.

it's an excursion of some kind, and we're gonna live at home with an aboriginee family. don't really know what to expect, except it's a smaaaall place. i'm kind of visualizing a desert with a bush and some houses ;)

Any thoughts on the work holiday visa? I am hearing negative things about it. Does it in reality treat workers like immigrants and not carry much weight? Do you know anything about that? I am wondering if a standard visa would be the way to go or does the work/holiday visa seem to be more or less a scam. Any thoughts?

I was at work, overnighted it, and took the next day off of work to read/reread it...thanks for spreading the word man. Potts puts it down eloquently pushes you to the end of the plank ready to jump into your vagabonding experience, and then feeds you another piece of insight to think about. Thanks for replying and for the great advice. I actually just started reading "Vagabonding" and i have to say..it's making me want to go to Australia even more! I definitely wouldn't mind visiting Melbourne...i actually hope to stay in a few places when i go (Perth, Sydney, Brisbane), just to get a feel for the different places. I guess my best option would be to stay in hostels? Are those generally on the safe side? My only concern is that my temporary stays will prevent me from finding a job for the time being. Do you think that would be a problem? I work in Admin curently but i don't mind doing casual work in the hospitality industry (i actually want to get into that). Also, how hard is it to get the Tax ID number and where do you get it? I read you could get it before you come but i'm not sure if that's accurate. Do you know how long it takes to get the working holiday visa? I'm so sorry for all the questions but you seem like you really know what you are talking about :) Hope to hear from you soon!

Happy to here there are some more canadians around. You really need to hit the east coast, the maritimes can be pretty spectacular. Plus, the acadians are great, what can I say, haha! I didin't have the chance to go further than toronto yet, but I will hopefully make it to B-C by next summer or the one following.

All sports. Many college sports, but mostly prepatory sports here in the states.

We are headed to China in late August and early Sept. Looking at three weeks doing the major cities and a few off-the-beaten path places in the southwest region.

Any tips or advice for a first-timer to China?

Carlo - Thank you for the warm welcome. I see that you have been to China. I will be leaving in two days to teach English there for the next year and would love to hear of any tips or advice that you may have since I have never been. Although I have not been to China, I have been to many other places in Southeast Asia including Laos - I see that was on your list of places to travel to. Is there any particular area you are wanting to visit there?

how easy is it to find work quickly in melbourne? (restaurant, construction, kinesiology-related all fine - vancouverites are diverse)

Yes, I've had a great time in Mexico, mainly Baja but I've never made it to the Cabos :( The farthest south in Baja i've been is to San Ignacio to play w/ the grey whales.

I would love to know more about the Trans-Siberian railway, St. Petersburg & Mongolia. Also did you buy your tickets in advance?

Since The Virgin of Guadalupe has frequent cameos on Fuego en la Sangre, I think Jesus should have enough sense not to come before the grand finale ;)
I live in Pachuca, Hidalgo--about an hour northeast of Mexico City. It's probably the most boring major city in Mexico, no lie. Cabo must have been sweet, though!
