I'm fired up on:

When I'm not travelling, I love football, writing, photography and whisky chasers with my most loyal friends. Actually, I do all this while travelling, so why stop! When I had a kitchen I loved to cook, when I had a TV I loved to watch films and when I had a girlfriend I loved to... umm... take her on long walks in the park.

Tunes I rock out to:

If music be the food of love, then tuck in fatty because I aint hungry! My iTunes is heaving at the scroll bar with a random collection of accumalated music from, well, I wish I could tell you? I've bought less than twenty CD's in my whole life, but rarely buy (or download). I'm travelling in Asia right now, so I am growing a natural hatred of all things Bob Marley, especially the one about dry-eyed Bob and his no-woman ways.

Travel style:

I love to travel by myself, but probably have the most fun when travelling with others. I try to mix it up, though the ex-girlfriend took a bit of convincing of this theory. I always backpack, nearly always in the budget category and I'm not anti-guidebooks. I always buy a oneway ticket because I love the flexibility this offers, and hate being penned in by a return/onward flight, plus I'm usually too tight to pay to change them.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

Touring South India on a Royal Enfield, drinking ten glasses of chai at five different shacks, being knocked off by a bus teeming with locals, being turned away from hotels because, ironically, I was too dirty and exchanging head wobbles with mechanics who knew less than I did about fixing a snapped chain.

Why I travel:

I had everything; a great job, a nice home, a lovely girlfriend, a decent car and an amazing set of friends. I know all these things are waiting for me back in England, so I've headed out to see what else there is, and what other people value.

Ideal place to watch the sunrise:

At the smoking summit of Gunung Merapi, a volcano in west Sumatra having walked under a full moon through the night to see it.

Ideal place to watch the sunset:

Not ideal, but I watched the sunset over Everest in Tibet, being 10km from the guesthouse it meant it got very cold very quick and I now have a phoebia of the cold!

Before I die I'd like to:

Pen a book.
