Hey, thanks for getting in touch! You'll have a blast in Thailand. There's lots to see on Phuket beyond the beaches, so be sure to explore the interior. The best answer about what to pack is "as little as possible". Conservative dress is important. In touristy areas it's not a big deal for women to wear tank-tops and such, but if you want to interact with locals in a meaningful way, you need to cover up - especially in the south, where much of the population is muslim.

Tracey! Sadly, my time in Thailand has come and gone. I was only out there for two weeks and then had to get back to the real world in SF. Your trip sounds amazing. Enjoy Phuket. I only passed through there on my way to Kho Phi Phi (Which is worth checking out). If I were you, I'd spend a few days in Phuket and then start checking out some of the islands. They're great. (and if you have time head over to Laos and hit up the jungles and rivers. Vietiene (Sp?) is supposed to be really cool and there's a rafting trip where you sit on inner tubes and float down the river passed bars, who hook you in when you want a drink.. kinda cool.
