Solo-travel will always have a special place in my heart; there's nothing like dreaming up a journey, seeing to the details, planning and executing and experiencing every ounce of it and knowing you were the only one to make it happen and that no one will ever feel quite the way you do or see just what you get to see at that very moment. I believe in the kindness of strangers, being savvy but daring, and believing that life is here to be experienced to the fullest - for all its highs and lows. I can appreciate luxury travel and accommodation (I do sell cruises for a living, after all, and of course have had to try them out!), but I have been most alive when the only extravagance is found in the generosity and hospitality of others and not my own pocketbook. I love this world, and I love this life, and this is why I travel - to experience both to very depths that I can.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

I spent Bastille day on the banks of the Seine watching fireworks explode behind the Eiffel Tower with a Parisian I'd just met, learned to love a stranger in the shortest time possible, listening to his beautiful accent and knowing my entire life and understanding of the world had been forever changed. He took me to the airport when the sun came up and he disappeared into the crowd and I haven't seen him since...but 6 years later and we're still in touch, and I know now and forever that love found between two strangers from two cultures in a foreign country, while so brief, can be permanent.

Feelings, and being away
