If you must know: I'm single Travel status: Traveling now Hometown: Second star to the right Currently in: Seoul, South Korea Favorite places I've been: IRELAND! (pretty much everywhere), Oxford & London & Dover (England)... okay and the rest of England, too, Scottish highlands, Glasgow & Edinburgh (Scotland), Paris (France), Holland, Denmark, Italy (Milan, Rome, Venice - ah, Venice! - and Florence), Greece (Corinth & environs, Athens, Santorini, Crete, Delphi), China (Beijing & Rizhao)
Places I want to go to: New Zealand & Australia, Tibet, Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Egypt (especially Alexandria & Cairo), South Africa, Israel, Turkey (especially Istanbul), Thailand, all of South & Central America, the Caribbean, Bora Bora, Alaska... oh, pretty much the entire world
About me: I make clover chains.
I run in the rain.
I like cooking, with a particular fondness for obscure and/or ridiculously complicated things such as apple pie from scratch with crust cut into autumn leaves, wedding cakes and truffles.
I start many, many things that I never finish, including that Great American novel...
I like pirates. But only the scruffy-and-dastardly-yet-endearing (imaginary) variety.
My mantra is, "When all else fails, laugh about it."
I have some pretty amazing friends.
I write bad poetry.
Sometimes I think there's nothing better in the world than a mid-afternoon nap.
I want to learn to play the piano, the guitar, the harp, the violin and the mandolin. I play only one now. The guitar. Badly.
I quote Shakespeare. And not to impress anyone, either. I'll quote "The Big Lebowski" next.
I remember the lyrics to pretty much every song I've ever heard but I forget how old I am.
I am sarcastic. Witheringly so.
I am always learning but I still pretend to know everything.

The four hour ferry ride from Crete to Santorini was far from uneventful. After an unsuccessful attempt at sonnet-writing, I made friends...

After a madcap dash through the Loutraki bus station and the Athens subway, I arrived with a very narrow margin for error on the dock for the highspeed ferry from Piraeus (Athens port, outside of the city proper) to Chania, Crete.
The long ferry ride (wherein I nodded off and on, meanwhile making quite...

Loutraki is one of Greece's relatively hidden gems. By relatively I mean that it isn't usually on the top ten tourist destinations (though by all accounts it can be as crowded and "touristy" as anywhere in Greece during high season) that people on whirlwind tours of the country list as "must-sees," though...
