About me:

I was born in New Hampshire, and raised all around the United States before returning to NH for college to study History and Anthropology. I'm currently in Istanbul, teaching English and trying to learn as much as I can about the world.

Travel style:

I usually travel solo, equipped with a backpack with too few clothes and too many books.

Turkish and Mandarin Chinese (although I'm forgetting it)

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

snorting snuff with Tibetan pilgrims, watching football with fans of Besiktas or the Turkish national team, and whenever I can be somewhere and not be noticed as a foreigner.

Why I travel:

I travel to learn, to experience, and to feel that solitude which is both comforting and alienating. I've found that I live for being somewhere else, never completely at home, but constantly interested and enriched because of it.

Ideal place to watch the sunrise:

Mt. Cadillac in Acadia National Park, or sitting next to the mediterranean in southern Turkey

Ideal place to watch the sunset:

the Arizona desert, or alongside the Bosphorus in Istanbul, in the old town of Ayvalik, rock climbing with friends

Before I die I'd like to:

Before I die I'd like to say that I have made a small positive difference in the world, in some way....something that would look good on a tombstone.
