I've lived in the southern German state of Bavaria for two years - penty enough time to be able to tell you what to wear to the Oktoberfest, where to find the finest Alpine retreats and why you shouldn't eat white sausages after noon.

Well, those are actually al of the places I've been, but anyway...

Eastern Europe and Egypt are next up on my agenda.

About me:

I was lucky enough a job as a staff journalist straight out of university, which sated my writing urges but kept me from exploring my travel ones. So after four years I elected to leave the land Down Under and set out to explore the world. The length of the trip and the destination were up in the air and have never really hit the ground. I've now been out of Oz for almost three years and I now stop talking about my "trip", rather "my crazy life". I'm now teaching english in Southern Germany and taking every oppotunity I can to keep seeing new things and meeting new people.

I'm fired up on:

Languages! Apart from a year of French at high school I was an unashamed monolinguist until I started traveling. I'm now quite advance in German and have started an Italian course. I love the feel of each new language and how they let you be expressive in different ways.

Tunes I rock out to:

Can only rock out to Rock! It's still the highest musical art form. I love the Beatles, ACDC, Dire Straits, John Melancamp (in his Couger years)and perhaps above all, Bruce Springsteen. My buddy Simon Stockdale (a Melbourne signer songwriter) is also very good.

Travel style:

"Second star to the right and straight on 'till morning". I never make reservations and avoid looking too far down the road. I prefer to go solo - you usually have a lot more company that way. I like to let the sheer unpredictability of it all boat me along.

I want to make a difference by:

Producing outstanding travel literature, thereby people world to travel more and make a difference themselves. Volunteering whenever I can, like I did after the Asian Tsunami. Being green, even if it's not easy.

German (pretty good), Italian (beginners)

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

The first day I arrive in a new country for the first time I get a kind of giddy feeling - I try to absorb everything, every advertising poster, conversations on trains, the gaits of passers-by, the humidity, the sounds, the smells. That's when I feel the most immersed and in an oxymoronic kind of way, the most at home.

Why I travel:

Because it beats the pants of everything else!

Ideal place to watch the sunrise:

From a Jumbo jet at 10,000 meters, destination anywhere.

Ideal place to watch the sunset:

Swaying in a hammock in a Thai seaside village, listening to the waves and sipping on a beer.

Before I die I'd like to:

Keep trotting the globe and write my own travel guidebooks and start a language school in Vienna.

I've just started making short, travelrelated videos on my little Cannon Ixus cam, which I want to start putting on YouTube. I have no musical skils and I've love to hook up with a composer who could produce some backing music.

Hey man!

Just joined the site and I'm glad to see there is another adopted Bavarian spreading the love! Your website is looking good, if you end up doing a section on excursions from Munich then I'd be more than happy to provide a write up/some photos of Passau and the Bavarian Forest. Plus if you're ever in the area and in need of a mass, just give me a mail.. :-)
