An ExPat - have lived in PLC, Venezuela & Doha, Qatar & now Stavanger, Norway & before all that too many states in the USA...As a World Traveler - have been to the Caribbean, Venezuela, Scotland, Qatar, Egypt, Greece, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, Norway & more to come

I'm fired up on:

Impact the World or Be The Change on CNN, Tom's Shoes giving a pair of shoes to a child in the world for every pair you buy - this year in Africa, Ten Thousand Villages helping all the craftswomen that they can, Dr. Anna in PLC Venezuela somehow continuing to do cranial facial surgeries for so many cleft palate children there, working immigrants rights in the Middle East such as in Doha or Dubai, writing, blogging, Facebook, reading about travelers stories of where I've been or where I want to go, actual traveling wandering the streets, picking up seashells on the beach & looking for more things to come

Tunes I rock out to:

Putumayo World Music, or local Radio/CD's in the language I'm visiting (say French or Spanish or German or Norwegian, etc.)

Travel style:

with Girlfriends or with the Spouse or Solo, usually with too much stuff & each time telling myself I need to figure out how to go off with less in my luggage or my backpack or my purse too

There are so many, but usually books I've just finished reading like The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society or The Biology of Belief or some book I've found by accident in the airport waiting for an International flight

Who I'd like to meet on my travels:

ExPats living abroad or locals or kids or dogs or someone who is bilingual

I want to make a difference by:

for now when I read someone's book who's living in a foreign country I like to think I've helped them & their country & when I get to visit them I like to think I've helped them & their country & their city & perhaps their hotel or shop or restaurant too to keep going & after that I donate time or monies where I can, first off to my sister who runs a non-profit horse rescue

sometimes Spanish or French, not Norwegian

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

I was standing in front of burlap sacks full of fragrant spices in the Old Souk in Doha, Qatar or was trying to order off a menu in France, Spain or Italy or ordering tickets for the bus or train or metro in Paris or Cinque Terre or Interlaken or counting out a new foreign currencies to pay for something like a gift or even a coffee at kiosk or understanding enough of the language to ask the saleslady how she's doing because she's got a cough at the ceramics shop in Frigiliana or asking for directions to get to some place you'd like to see or for a recommendation of a local restaurant or where to buy a corkscrew while in a self-catering apartment or trying to manage a ferry ride in Greece out to the islands or even by going back to read about someone who's living where I've just traveled I'm immersed all over again

Why I travel:

feelin the joy, the sights, taking photos, going to bed journaling or to do things like finding myself reading A Moveable Feast while soaking in tub in a hotel that Ernest Hemingway stayed in & wrote in a room at a desk there as well my doing so after walking where perhaps he had walked thru town or later when visiting Ronda Spain seeing a street named after him & again were photos of him in the hotel we were staying at knowing he had gone to bullfights there, cheap flights or because I'm moving or just because I can & I'm curious or adventurous to a point

Ideal place to watch the sunrise:

I sleep in so this is a rare sight for me, but I'd probably say coming up from any mountain of the world

Ideal place to watch the sunset:

into the water at any beach in the world

Before I die I'd like to:

figure out where in the world I'd like to settle, to stay put, & there are lots more places to go see & beaches to discover before then or write a book about it all
