Located in San Rafael California, The Book Designers is a combined effort of 4 partners forming a corporation to best serve 3 distinct and diverse book design markets: The Self Publisher, The mid-level publisher and the Established or High-end Publisher.

The Book Designers was founded by Ian Shimkoviak and Alan Hebel. The 2 had formed and successfully operated Alian Design in San Rafael. Alian Design was a multi-disciplinary design practice specializing in high-end book design and production. The company was founded in 2005 and was refined and further perfected with the addition of the talents and entrepreneurial direction of Book Design experts Usana Shadday and Scott Erwert—both successful Graphic Artists and Production experts.

We believe there is a right way to produce a book and we have developed proprietary systems to achieve the desired result: A book that is beautiful and responds to the needs of it's clients by having market appeal and presence.

TBD offers services that range from conceptual development, design, consulting, production, prepress, printing, as well as a full-range of professional editorial services ranging form proof reading, copy editing and developmental editing and line editing. We work with a dedicated team of editors, authors, photographers, artists and designers that have been in the publishing industry for many years and have rich experience to offer our client base.
