I am a writer and plan to write cookbooks (beginning with a Persian cookbook) and teach English in the countries I visit while I am also learning to cook their cuisine, and then write about it all. I hope to be published.

I would really like to promote bamboo use to replace wood pulp...I'm very happy to see bamboo being used in everything from hair products to flooring, and hope the the growers get fairtrade prices

I lived in Tehran, Iran from 1983-1995. That was something out of the ordinary.

Why I travel:

because to choose to stay home is intolerable--you have to be out in the world to have a worldview

Before I die I'd like to:

make and spend money on conservation, the poor, donate money to hospitals in my parents' names...teach again, I would also like to sing jazz songs and if I'm any good, make a cd

I would like to netowrk with people in Middle Eastern countries so I can visit and have friends already there...it can be very lonely in a new place.

For those of you cotemplating traveling to Iran, I can offer plenty of tips, insight and advice, since I lived in Tehran for over a decade. I've visited Shiraz, Isfahan, Qom, Mashhad and the Caspian Sea in Iran. I was there from 1983-1995 and I would go back in a second.
