About me:
Writer/Editor full-time for British music downloading website. Wannabe freelance travel writer/adventurer. Returned not so long ago from year-long solo trip around the world. Broke but planning another. Hoping to relocate to San Francisco in a year, for a year. I hate spiders with a passion, and would very much like to get over this. I also love cats with a passion. I pretty much adopt the local cat population wherever I go. I like to think I'm a decent traveler but always seem to end up having mishaps. I got my hand stuck in a postbox in Budapest, had all my underwear rescued from the top of a palm tree in Thailand, and made the mistake of hitching on a tractor with a drunk farmer in the south pacific. I love kids, and photographing kids in their natural environment, and I love being amongst mountains, lakes and wild, wild scenery.

That's not a bad one to start with. I could've used that one myself.

Where to start. I probably need to think in more detail about this but here's what I can come up with on the top of my head:

1) Singapore is exruciatingly humid. Full sweats within 20 seconds of being outdoors. Don't be a fool like me and wear jeans.
2) In Singapore I really enjoyed taking a river trip in a traditional junk boat with lovely red lanterns. Touristy but who cares.
3) Save all your memory card, camera, mobile phone, whatever - purchases for here. Lots of bargaining to be had and ridiculously cheap prices.
4) Thailand. Lots of mosquitos on the islands. Very unlikely you'll get any horrible diseases off them but they itch like hell. "Bushman" insect repellant is the best I've ever used. (Think you can only get it in Australia though, hmmm)
5) If you get the opportunity to do a Thai cooking course, take it. Not only will you endear yourself to all your friends, you might learn how to carve a rose out of a carrot.
6) Getting clothes made - a real bargain but you still get what you pay for. Most of mine fell apart within a few months (probably because I went for the cheapest possible option).

Wow, you've been everywhere I want to go! And those pictures don't help, they only make me want to go more places. Any tips for Singapore/Thailand? I'm going there briefly later this year and the only tip I have so far is "put all your possessions in plastic bags..."

wow. thanks a lot.

people asking *me* for tips on photography. that's a nice, strange feeling. well i dunno really. sometimes i just see a situation and I know it'll make a great shot, but it normally takes 10 or 15 tries to get the perfect one. that's the beauty of digital. but it's mostly trial and error, i have to confess.

blogs coming soon...

your pics are really great. You've been to a ton of cool places.

Also, I am the exact same way when it comes to books. I read about 6 at a time, and finish maybe 1 out of those 6. very noncommittal.

anyway, you'll have to write a blog or two so we can get a taste of what your future novel will be..

Travelling by train is my most loved - and most loathed - method of getting around. I doubt there's a finer way of traversing Europe than by train, and even with the rise and rise of budget airlines over the last decade, its popularity shows no sign of waning. Travelling by train out of necessity...

I'm a Brit. I know all about standing in line. It's instilled into us at a very young age. There's all kinds of etiquette involved that I won't go into here, but let's just say that we've got it down to a fine art form over here, and deviating from the 'rules' has been known to cause all manner of...
