i was born in pakistan, am half-swiss, half-american and live in afghanistan. my parents worked with afghan refugees in northern pakistan, which is where i grew up. i finished high school at a public high school in northern california, after two years of boarding school, two years of home school, and six years of a small sort of home-school co-op.
i graduated from uc berkeley in 2004, and after becoming a certified midwife, moved to afghanistan (which has the second highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world). i worked in a hospital in kabul for a year, training midwives, running the maternity ward and nicu etc., and recently have been training health educators for pregnancy and birth.
i am volunteering as the california tour coordinator for the afghan mini mobile circus for children.
