Where DON'T I want to go? Machu Pichu, the top of Kilimanjaro, Timbuktu, Zanzibar, New Zealand, Ireland, China, Australia, New Zealand, Seattle, Prague, Poland, Brazil, the Hoover Dam, Mexico... seriously, I want to go everywhere. Maybe not Iraq or Afghanistan at this particular moment in history.

Born in Switzerland, grew up in Texas and shuttled back and forth while growing up. I just finished two years in Togo with Peace Corps and recently moved to Louisville, Kentucky, even though New Orleans is calling my name REALLY loudly. Looking for a jorb in the Bluegrass State.

I'm fired up on:

Reading lots of books, increasing my list of countries I've visited, and and right now, enjoying all the States' offerings I missed while away - live music, a variety of beer and food, four seasons and cheese.

Tunes I rock out to:

My all-time favorites are Ben Folds (Five) and Ani DiFranco (had enough Ani on my 2gig iPod to accompany me for at least 40 kilometers of biking). Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, the Beatles, Radiohead, Tori Amos, The Shins, Tegan and Sarah, Pearl Jam, the Magnetic Fields,The Long Winters, Iron and Wine... I'll give anything a listen at least once.

Travel style:

By myself or with a good travel buddy. I like to have one or two things to accomplish (see the Trevi Fountain, go to a hamam) at a destination and then just use the rest of my time to wander around and have adventures.

I read On Writing Well by William Zinsser every year. I love reading, so it's hard to pick a favorite, but my recent top picks would be ZAMI by Audre Lorde and The Band Played On by Randy Shilts.

Languages spoken, other than English:

Swiss German (poorly, these days), French

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

Sharing food with locals (or a mix of nationalities) anywhere. Also shopping in open-air markets, with or without language skills.

Why I travel:

"I love the unknown." (can you name the artist? ...because I'm drawing a blank right now)

Before I die I'd like to:

Climb Kilimanjaro, see the Great Wall, learn how to surf and rock climb, see Iguazu and Victoria Falls, go to Cape Town, bike or drive across the US

Let's collaborate:

I write and photograph (particularly interested in drag queens) and would love to use those skills in just about any way possible. I'm also happy to do French-English translation or just meet people with whom I can practice my French and German.
