Can't remember the exact cost, but the current cost should be posted somewhere on thier site. I think it's probably gone up. But I thought it was a great experience and you can always try to fund raise to offset the cost a bit...

Ah, a six month sabbatical. What I wouldn't do for one of those!

Hey there, thanks for the comment. I often went around Salvador by myself and felt safe there. There are definitely issues, but I think Salvador is safer than Rio and SP and when I got out of the city, I always felt safe. I blended in really well and people thought I was local... I'm guessing you could blend in too. And I found both locals and travelers in Bahia to be really friendly (just watch out for shady men who hang around female tourists ;)

I highly recommend Bahia, I'm dying to get back down there. I have a blog on my trip (and some tips for safety) on another travel site if you want to check it out: http://www.travbuddy.com/travel-blogs/3719

Hi Globalgirl,

I am new to the Metador site and just came across your profile by chance! I am so excited (and a little jealous) just reading about your upcoming adventures. Taking a sabbatical to explore the world is going to be an experience of a lifetime! I would love to hear where you wind up...I hope you have Istanbul and Croatia on your list...I hear they are must dos. From my personal experience in Europe I hope you can stop through Edinburg, Madrid and Gstaad. What area do you want to focus on?

Have a fabulous time!
Kimberly

The Pestana Palace is, hands down, the most lavish hotel I've experienced or paid for! On our first-ever trip to Portugal this summer, my friend Mary and I decided to treat ourselves. At first we thought of staying in a chic boutique hotel in the center of Lisbon, near the hip cafes and nightlife....

Negril's Seven Mile beach is famous for its glorious stretch of white sands and its sunsets. But when you dream of escaping the tourist crowds for some sun and solitude, head to Half Moon Beach for the day. Just a ten minute taxi ride outside of Negril, it’s the closest thing to a remote island...
