A bushman once told me, “once you fall asleep under the stars of Africa, you inevitably return…”
It was the fall of 2001 when I took my first journey through the wilds of Botswana. At this time, I knew little of Botswana and even less of the continent of Africa; perhaps the biggest draw was visiting this unknown land. Botswana captivated me from the first day. It’s prolific wildlife, generous people, haunting beauty and elemental suffering. Can you imagine a land where 40-60% of its population is infected with the HIV virus? Can you imagine a life will most likely end by the time you reach 31? Botswana put my world into a rapid tailspin and fascinated me beyond anything I had previously encountered.
Since my first visit to Botswana, I have returned to Africa many times (often multiple times a year). Because of my interest, knowledge, cooking and mechanical skills, I got hired on as a driver guide for a small safari company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, I have been extensively traveling in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya and Tanzania. I possess in depth knowledge of not only the safari circuit, but of local culture and history as well. If any of you are looking to travel in East of Southern Africa, please feel free to drop me a message. I will be happy to provide recommendations for an authentic and real African experience.
