Jennifer received her MFA in Writing for Children from Spalding University, and her MA in Psychology from San Jose State University. Her short story series, Tonics, appears in the spring/summer/fall/winter 2007 issues of The First Line , and she was among the top ten winners in Per Contra Magazine’s 2007 short story contest. As a travel writer, she is a frequent contributor to Matador Travel, Pology, TangoDiva and IntraTravel among others. When not writing or working at a not-for-profit education policy firm, she divides her time between travel, mentoring for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and volunteering with organizations such as Hands On.

Favorite places I've been:

Iceland, New Zealand, Vietnam, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy (including Sardinia), England, Canada, Mexico. In the United States, I've traveled all over the West and through a lot of the Southern states.

Places I want to go to:

I have a thing for islands and island nations. I hanker for a trip to Cuba, the Greek isles, the Azores, Mauritius, Sicily, Cape Verde, etc. But I'll go just about anywhere.

I'm fired up on:

A good funny story is one of my favorite things in life. I love writing. Spending time with my friends and family. Hanging out with my mentee, who I have known for nearly six years through Big Brothers Big Sisters. I love to volunteer for various organizations such as Hands On Bay Area and Athletic Girls, Inc.

International. Hip hop. Movie soundtracks. Pop. Blues. Limited selection of country (Patsy Cline, Dolly P).

Travel style:

I travel by myself a lot, but I'm never alone for long since it's easiest to meet people flying solo. But I do also love to travel with friends and family.

Being genuine, reliable and trustworthy (I was born in the Year of the Dog). By helping out others as much as I can.

Spanish, and just a little French, Portuguese, and Italian.

I can communicate comfortably in the language. When I don't feel conspicuous.
