Guadeloupe, in the French West Indies
Favorite places I've been:
The town of McCarthy in Alaska; the village of Busua in Ghana; the crazy city of Cairo; the voodoo-infused towns of southern Benin; the town of Lund, British Columbia, Canada; my former home in Quebec City, Canada; the Temagami region of Ontario, Canada; the Pemberton Valley, British Columbia, Canada; my mom's prairie home in small-town Saskatchewan, Canada.

I have lived in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec and have also visited Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island. I've skimmed through Cuba, England, Scotland, and Switzerland on week-long trips and spent one or more months in Alaska, Poland, Benin, Ghana, and Egypt.

Places I want to go to:
Would I be different than anyone else here if I said I wanted to go everywhere, literally? First in line on the wish-list is India and Nepal, followed closely by Tunisia and then Russia and other parts of eastern Europe.

My next planned trip is a 6-week contract on a small island in the Guadeloupe archipelago, which is French. I'll be working with a group of teenagers who will do service work and cultural/language immersion.

About me:
I adore Battlestar Galactica, have a fear of scuba diving and going to the optometrist. The first time I ever got on a motorcycle was when I stepped off the plane in Benin. I can tell you the chocolate that is considered the best in the world. I speak French and will hopefully learn Creole this summer. I'm a great student but all my marks from last term say "Failure to complete -- no credit will be given." I want to be like Samantha Power, shooting the mouth off and all. I'm in a university program where we make all our own coursework -- we decide where, when, and how, never have exams, and can choose whether or not we want numerical grades. One of my current courses is learning about the history of France in Africa by reading books written in French.
