Places I want to go to:

I seriously want to see the whole wide world! But if I had to choose, top destinations: New Zealand, Spain, South America, Eastern Europe, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Nepal, India, North Africa. Maybe Everest and eventually Antarctica before the ice shelves all melt away!

About me:

The prospect of going to a new place, along with the brand new experiences that await, is possibly the sole motivation behind why I work. Every paycheck takes me closer to my next destination. I am most liberated, happy and in my element when I'm out there, on the road. Bring it on!

I'm fired up on:

TRAVEL! Learning, reading, writing. A good book, good movie, good play/musical really makes my day too.

Tunes I rock out to:

I love Latino rhythms, and have been wanting to learn the salsa since forever. Jazz, blues, big band, Broadway, acoustic, alternative, reggae, world... I have everything from Aerosmith to Youssou N'Dour on my iPod, and lots more in between - including Thai pop songs and African drum beats.

Travel style:

I don't advocate traveling in touristy groups (i.e.: being herded around like dumb sheep). Being ferried around in air-conditioned buses to snap pictures and shop all day isn't my idea of a travel experience. I love the opportunity to interact with locals in their own environment. Case in point - my most amazing travel experiences thus far include spending time playing with the children of Kompong Phluk, Cambodia, and being invited to a prayer session and lunch with a Tibetan family.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

Living in France. Nothing beats living in a place for an extended duration.

Why I travel:

Because there's so much to do, so much to see, and because Singapore - where I was born - is tiny.
In my opinion, traveling is the best form of education - it taught me resourcefulness, resilience, courage, self-discovery and encouraged the broadening of my mind to consider new perspectives and possibilities. It has taught me that diversity is a way of life, and there should not be room for discrimination in this globalised world today.

Sitting on the rocks in the Gobi desert watching the sky change colours. It was him that made it memorable, not the place.

Before I die I'd like to:

- See the world
- Love and be loved in return. Without fear or doubt
- Get my ramshackle Spanish up to speed, master French and learn another Asian language, such as Thai or Japanese
- Start a literacy program for underprivileged children

I have some writing experience - I've worked for Singapore's national newspaper, and, as freelance writer, I mostly covered economics and human resource for magazines, with some editing work on the side. I have had a fruitful stint in corporate communications and public relations too.
