Favorite places I've been: Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Alaska
Places I want to go to: Eastern Europe, Mexico, South America, and any place I have not yet been in the US
About me: I am a freelance writer living and working in the Italian district of San Francisco. Despite my urban address, I am equally at home in the vast wilderness of Alaska and the pastoral landscape of rural California (where I have spent much of the last eleven years), as I am in my high density neighborhood. My writing reflects this life-long sense of schizophrenia: I am as interested in good fiction, the opera, and a great cafe, as I am in the botanical uniqueness of tundra, hearing the autumn call of Sandhill Cranes, or discovering the best way to grow peas, and how to can sauerkraut. The writer's life allows the indulgence of all these different passions. My writing is largely about food and food history, the environment, travel, and that space where human culture and the natural world intersects.
