About me:

I am an instructional technologist at a university and am finishing a Master's degree in Literacy, Technology, and Professional Writing.

Through photography, I strive to portray the world on my terms, not fitting in with the trends of the moment. I don't shoot for a particular audience but more to show the world as I see it - nuances and glimpses, seeing the ordinary as if it were extraordinary.

Travel style:

I usually travel alone and crash where I can. Sometimes I stay in hotels, sometimes I sleep under the sky in my sleeping bag, sometimes I sleep in a tent or a car -- depends on where I am and how I got there.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

a traveler approached me on the streets of London and asked me directions to an obscure place (we were in a local neighborhood) and when the local shopkeeper called me "lovey" each day when I entered the shop.

Why I travel:

I can't help it. I'm driven.

canyon de chelly national monument, arizona

I recently traveled to Canyon de Chelly National Monument with my niece and a friend. We decided to take a different route there than we would take home, trying to get as many photography opportunities as possible.

From Flagstaff, we took I-40 east to State Route 191. There was some road construction...
