everywhere. i was thinking eastern europe was next, but i think i might hit central/south america for a surf trip before that.

About me:

i moved up to the los angeles area in august to work for a small law firm and consider the path to law school. i have decided...since august...that this is not my path. i studied international studies in school, with a focus on political science and latin american studies, and i think i'll go back to school to pursue my masters in a year. i'm thinking about the school of international studies in brussels, belgium. anyone have a recommendation?

i'm stoked on life...especially when i meet other people that feel the same. i hate all the bullshit that i see on a daily basis, and it's my philosophy to be as real as possible, and try to bring out the realist in everyone.

I'm fired up on:

cooking, reading, running in the rain, swimming, biking, listen to music that inspires me to think/laugh/cry/sing/dance/scream. i love photography...i love drawing...and i love to write about life's frustrations and joys. i love snowboarding, knitting, getting massages, watching the dogs at the dog park, blowing bubbles in traffic, calling home, people watching, and sleeping in the grass. and i love fall. its the most amazing season.

Tunes I rock out to:

tough one--pretty much everything. daily, i am an indie rock kinda girl: radiohead, mirah, jose gonzalez, regina spektor, album leaf, badly drawn boy, feist, elliot smith, sufjan stevens, kings of leon, chris and thomas, tunng, sea wolf. on the more general spectrum...the shit that has been part of the soundtrack of my life over the years...includes: old school rhcp, incubus, foo fighters, pearl jam, jimmy hendrix, bob dylan, joni mitchell, ben harper, smashing pumpkins, led zepplin, nirvana, tom petty.

international music is one of my all-time favorites...although i dont think i should clump it into one category. i love brazilian music--i think its the most innovative and inspiring music that exists to date: ceu, gil gilberto, joao and bebel gilberto, lenine, tribalistas, tom jobim, caetano veloso, seu jorge.

and i can't fail to mention that I love to listen to jazz (miles, duke ellington, horace silver, chet baker, john coltrane, ella fitzgerald, billie holiday, nina simone). oh...and i love christmas carols.

Travel style:

I will travel any/every way that I can. I've discovered that sometimes traveling alone is necessary...and actually sometimes more enjoyable. The truth is, though, that you are really never alone when you travel. Every time I've started on a trip by myself, I've met fellow travelers and found myself suddenly in great company. I dont know which I prefer. We could all use a co-traveler throughout life I guess.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

i was living with a family in Chile and we would have long discussions about politics, and life in general.

Why I travel:

to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to open my eyes to a world that is impossible to see from my apartment in the US.

Ideal place to watch the sunrise:

anywhere...so long as i have a huge blanket wrapped around me and a warm cup of coffee in my hand

sunset cliffs

if you're seriously considering migration studies after you graduate, i would suggest a professor i studied under in grad. school. her name is dr. caroline brettell ( http://www.smu.edu/anthro/faculty/cBrettell/cBrettell.htm ). she teaches in an anthropology department and is highly regarded.
