Favorite places I've been: I lived in Jordan and Egypt and am now living in Israel. I've traveled to most of the countries in the Middle East and North Africa over the last few years. My last few backpacking vacations have been to India, Cambodia, and Vietnam -- all great trips.
Places I want to go to: I've never been to South America or Sub-Saharan Africa.
About me: Last May, my first book, Live from Jordan, was published. Live from Jordan is my story of living the American-Arab relationship 24 hours a day for a year after 9/11 and during the war with Iraq. My travels and everyday experiences offer insight into the beliefs, fears, and dreams of real people in the walled cities, camel markets, universities, and coffee shops of the Arab World. More than that though, Live from Jordan, is full of the full-on experience of living abroad with tales of being homeless in Amman, getting rolled in a brothel in Istanbul, and stumbling into the midst of anti-American protest in Damascus.
Nowadays, I'm based in Jerusalem. I blog at Live from ... (
