Tokyo and anywhere in Spain top my very, very long list.

Baseball fields all over the country, so far I've been to Wrigley Field (Cubs), U.S. Celluar Field (White Sox), Coors Field (Rockies), Rogers Centre (Blue Jays), Comerica Park (Tigers), and Miller Park (Brewers)

About me:

I love to travel, but I'm a very nervous flyer. I love road trips, but worry about my environmental impact. I am a grad. student working on my Master of Public Health degree. My focus is on maternal and child health with particular interest in the health of women in the jail and prison systems, and health disparities in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. I was trained as a teacher and have, over the years, gravitated towards the public health field which I hope will provide many travel opportunities!

I am a contributer to Girlistic Magazine (http://www.girlistic.com/magazine.htm) and Feminist Review (http://feministreview.blogspot.com/).

I live on the northwest side of Chicago and I'm SO ready for Spring and Summer in the city!

Likes: my gf, street fests, days off, coffee, warm evenings grilling on my deck, Ellen Degeneres, comedy, ghost towns, carnivals, tiny houses, green living, learning to compost, the Sedaris family, friends, family, really good TV shows (Dexter, Weeds, Six Feet Under, The Simpsons, Strangers with Candy, 30 Rock, Arrested Development), recycling, Democracy Now!

Dislikes: litterbugs, the death penalty, injustice, sexism in this election, not being able to travel like I want!

Travel style:

I'm a big fan of U.S. travel (as you can tell). I travel with friends or family. I love finding fun local spots! I love the bizarre and the off-the-beaten-path. I like checking out local neighborhoods, but hate getting lost so I tend to over-map things. I like to travel with a cup of coffee. I love to catch baseball games and see new ballparks.

I can read minimal Spanish.

I felt the most immersed in a foreign culture when:

I was drunk and singing "The Fields of Athenry" with Lora's cousins while walking down a deserted country road in the wee hours of the morning in New Inn, Ireland.

I would like to start compiling opportunities, by city (mostly U.S. at this point), for travelers to volunteer and give back during their stays. Taking a road trip? Plant trees in your destination city to soak up that CO2 you put out there. Wasting food at Vegas buffets? Spend a few hours at a soup kitchen or food bank while you're there. Want a one-day volunteer opportunity in your destination city? I want to help compile these opportunities!
