About me:
Since graduating university, I've been working as an English teacher in various places abroad, with some travels in between jobs. I have taught in Thailand, England, and South Korea. I know a lot of people enter this line of work as a means to travel, but I find it very gratifying and have learned a lot about local cultures by communicating with students.

I am currently working in Istanbul, teaching adults, and feeling grateful for such a good life.

I love writing creative pieces and personal essays. I blog about the overseas TEFL biz at http://annemerritt.blogspot.com

Anne,

How long are you in Korea?

Ottawa is going alright. I love this place in the summer, but the winters get to me after a month or two. the snow is beautiful and the skiing has been fabulous this year, but I miss the warmth and the daylight. Went to Brazil last February, so maybe that's why this winter seems particularly daunting.

It's so nice to be close to family and old friends for the time being though. we are all spreading out over the world so it's hard to say when the next time will be.

Looking forward to the move that's for sure.

(also looking forward to reading your blogs:)

take care!

The train was slowly filling up. Hikers in their sixties, Koreans with enormous cameras, a group of Indian tourists looking absolutely pained by the cold. Beside me, an older Texan couple were practicing words from a German phrasebook together. "Gewt-n-tawg," one would say, while the other nodded...

Travelling with a laptop - yea or nay?

This spring I'll be returning to Canada from my current location in Turkey. Thanks to the wonders of Easyjet, I can make a few very very inexpensive stops in Europe along the way. The one wee problem? I'll have some precious cargo with me, including my bulky...

Resolutions kill me every year, so at the start of '09 I made 'em teeny-tiny.

Drink water constantly
Call beloved relatives (not just parents) from the road more
Mail Christmas cards this year.

I'm happy to say these easy resolutions were easy to master. So in the spirit of furthering my baby steps towards...
