I have noticed that I adapt very easily to other cultures, although I have experienced culture shock twice in my life - first when we moved deep into southern Texas when I was a kid and next on my first drop-of-a-hat solo trek through Europe.
If I want to get to know a location when I travel, I need to stay long enough to be a part of it rather than mad-dashing through and just hitting the highlights. I need to talk to the locals, do what they do, and, if I'm really going to be there for a while, try to dress as the locals dress so I won't stick out like a sore American thumb.
A trip to Israel led me - finally!!! - to the realization of what I want to do with my life - write about my travels. This, happily, requires me to travel more than I used to. I was blessed to start getting published soon after I began writing. And I've yet to explore most of the world.
