Best meat in Montevideo

Existing almost entirely in the northern swath of what is collectively known as the Argentian Pampas, Uruguay is rightfully known for its beef. Not only are the pastures and their 10 million vacas a natural beauty, they furnish a mean steak. My favorites can be found in:
Lunch at Mercado del Puerto - especially weekends, when you can often catch a drum show or some other live art.
Opened in 1868, the Port Market of Montevideo survives as a meat lovers paradise. In place of the train station that used to fill the gigantic brick and wrought iron building are about a dozen open air parillas from which you can choose the cut of your choice. The building also has some excellent seafood restaraunts. In the evening the gallery closes and several more formal steak houses, excellent in their own right, open up on the outskirts of the premises.

Dinner at La Otra:
Located in Barrio Pocitos, two blocks off the main drag of 21 de Septiembre. La Otra has become the consensus pick of the Uruguay expat community for good reason. Start it off with a provelone de casa (hunk of seasoned cheese cooked to deliciousness on the grill) and top it off with a Picana, ask for it 'Bien Jugoso' if you like your steaks as I do - bloody.

After dinner:
Tranquilo Bar, right on 21 de Septiembre:
Lots of history, good atmosphere, and the best tortilla (here a dish somewhat like potato pie? you try it and tell me what you'd call it) and Milanesa (chicken fried steak) I've tasted.

You won't be disappointed.
