Why Road Trips are Fun:

1) "On the road, you're your own boss"*.
2) You have a legitimate reason to eat Slim Jims and listen to books on tape.
3) You become better or worse friends with the person you drive with. There is no middle ground. (actually, I would imagine becoming worse friends with your travel mate would be the antithesis of fun, but at least you know). For instance, I recently drove cross country with Khuffman, and I am confident that he feels the same way as I do.. I sincerely hate him.
4) You realize Starbucks really HAS taken over the free world. (You also confirm that the Short, Tall, Venti, Uber Grande sizings of their cups is retarded).
5) You realize the Wright brothers were on to something with their whole "flying experiment". Flying really IS economical. The downside to air travel however, is that you don't achieve as much swamp ass on a 3 hour flight as you do during a 10 hour drive).
6) Beef Jerky produces terrible farts.
7) At least 7 states allow the passenger to have an open container.
8) Seeing the U.S. from the ground is spectacular. It is overwhelmingly huge. There are so many places to explore, landscapes to take in, different types of people to converse with.
9) You can go to Mount Rushmore, snap a picture and make a U-turn without having to pay a thing.
10) Your car is guaranteed to have at least one mechanical difficulty.
11) Billboards.
12) Conceding the fact that you will get a speeding ticket at some point, and then getting to your final destination without any traffic violations. (kinda like going to the Dentist thinking you have a Cavity, but then being told that your teeth are healthy (and you should floss more))..
13) You get to go to places like South Dakota, and determine that you never need to go to South Dakota again. Likewise, you fall in love with new places like Chicago and Montana, and make a note to get back there asap.

* Works Cited:
This slogan was actually taken from a television commercial for "The Northeast Trucking School" in Maine. (and when you say it, it has to be with a stupidly thick Maine accent, abruptly followed with an "Ayuh" and a sip of your beer.)

ps. If anyone has their own reasons why Road Trips are fun, I would love to hear them. (And if you hate road trips; you just didn't snap into enough slim jims on your last one).
