Employment Rant

I may have to make a choice between keeping my job and going on this trip. Unfortunately for them if it comes to that I’m choosing the trip. I’m going and nothing is stopping me. I’m going I don’t care. My boss gave me a off the record heads up and the owner’s first reaction was a straight up no without even looking at the proposal. I finally told him why I want to go so badly and said I would ask for a 3 month leave of absence if it is not approved but I get the feeling that won’t be granted – so it’s one or the other and if that is so, than I choose the latter. I have never asked for a raise and I have never taken more than a 2 day vacation! It’s not like I have anything here to stay for (other than friends) but I have acquaintances all over the US and some of them have offered me a place to stay on my travels…so why not just keep going? Keep traveling… screw it. I'm damn good at what I do and I'm passionate about it...Yes that can find someone just as good - maybe - but not for the same pay.... I'm going with or without them. I love my job but I love myself more. |

I think a lot of people on Matador have been in the exact same position. I personally walked away from two small fortunes to be where I am now; and yes, I'm bragging, dammit! Where I am is up late, browsing Matador in between figuring out how to pay the bills. I've never been happier.
If the answer was simple, the question wouldn't be worth asking. ;)
Good luck.
