How To Travel In Your Own Backyard
|
If there's one thing I've learned in my travels, it's that travel is a state of mind independent of location. It's possible to travel in your own hometown, and it's possible to fly from New York to Singapore and barely travel at all. I've got a new essay up on BNT about this issue that Matador friends might find interesting - here's the link: http://www.bravenewtraveler.com/2007/12/14/what-henry-david-thoreau-taught-me-about-travel/ |

I loved your article in Brave New Traveler! I love the slowness of it -- the joy of it -- the excitement, like seeing one's first firefly. Thank you! Jenn
"we travel every time we open our minds to a new possibility.....". What a line!.
Great job as always.
Tim,
Saludos Amigo. We made it back to good old Florida where this morning I took my cup of coffee to the edge of the flatwoods behind my parents house--the wild grape vines and sumac trees serving as better landmarks than the row of manicured lawns and mcmansions--and even for that second I was traveling, just the way you mentioned in your wonderful essay. A really great read, my friend. Just fantastic.
Hey, Tim-
Just read the piece--great! I've been thinking about the wandering in my own vast backyard--NYC--and you captured the same ideas- importance of just ramblin' on, talking with folks, and paying attention. That's really all travel is, regardless of where one actually is.
Love the photo with the BNT article; must be even more stunning to be there.
Peace,
Julie
