Beast Feast

To all you writers out there: this one's for you! Here's an easy story: Think church, think guns, think gun sales at church, think Jesus, think heaven/hell. Think: This should be easy.

I've had a fascination with BEAST FEASTs for four years now, though their history spans back at least 10 (based on my BF research). From what I can tell, and from what our yearly invitation states, BEAST FEASTs are designed to attract non-church going men to the Christian faith by way of guns. And it seems to be working. Back in 2000, little ol' Callahan, FL boasted a population of 962 residents. Just last week a sold out crowd of 2,400 hunting enthusiasts gathered at Callahan First Baptist's 8th annual BEAST FEAST. Word even travelled all the way to Mike Huckebee's meet-up website, as the event was listed as a recommended hot spot for 2nd Amendment supporters.

Callahan's 2008 BEAST FEAST featured a sanctuary decorated with over $750,000 in animal mounts, along with dozens of vendors selling guns and hunting equipment within church hallways.*  Pretty interesting stuff, although my take is that future BEAST FEAST organizers, if truly devoted to saving souls, should probably consider a target shooting range like the one at Green Pond Baptist Church.

*Matthew 21:12 seems to have been omitted from their Bibles.
