Southern Get Away

If you guys out there are looking for a quiet getaway that will leave you feeling recharged and refreshed, might I suggest the Outerbanks of North Carolina. **Disclaimer** I grew up there, so I am a bit biased.
Situated midway down the East coast of the US and about an hour from the closet airport, Beaufort, NC is a small town of 2,000 which holds the distinction of being the third oldest town in North Carolina and home to Edward Teach(Blackbeard).
If you are in the mood for seafood, look no farther. Being a ocean town, Beaufort is always stocked with fresh, right off the boat fish and shellfish. For a great well-prepared meal, head to Clawsons on Front St. This local institution has been around since 1905 and continues to crank out the best food in town. Try the seafood Drigible, which basically a baked potatoe stuff with various toppings, in this case shrimp, crabmeat and fish.
The Mariner's Museum has a great collection of memorabilia related to the seafaring tradition of the area. Highlights include the stuffed Great White Shark that was caught off the coast in the 80's.
The Dockhouse is the spot to hang out on a Friday night with a cold drink. Be prepared to have a good time. The somewhat local crowd is friendly and more than willing to introduce newcomers around and get the evening started.
I hope this introduction to my home gets you down there for some good food and good times.
