Fear of Flying
|
Are you afraid to fly? I am. The last time I was in England the fear started growing a week before my flight home. How did I cope with it? Luckily, I had my laptop. I started perusing sites online to help relieve my anxiety. And you know what? It worked. No, I wasn't completely cured, but reading a lot of information helped to alleviate my painful anxiety. I started with with Captain Ron's site. There is a lot of info here to absorb. It helped me, and hopefully it can help you. What do you do to alleviate your anxiety due to fear of flying? |

some ideas:
1) Get a window seat. I like looking out the window and checking out the landscapes/cityscapes. And this also distracts me from thinking about the very unnatural task of getting a 200 ton piece of metal off the ground.
2) This may be a perverse way of looking at it, but right before take off, accept the fact that you've had a good run in life so far, so if you are really unfortunate and your flight never lands somewhere, that's the way the proverbial cookie crumbles.. And if it lands somewhere, we'll it's all gravy from there..
3) ipod
4) drink
Thanks for the advice Stu.
When I fly to England I fly Virgin Atlantic, not just because of the great deals, but because you get personalized movies. Before I landed in Chicago I was watching Waitress, and I actually didn't want the plane to land. The movie was that good.
I think a lot of people suffer from this fear;I hope they can overcome it. Intellectually, I know it IS the safest way to travel. That's why I run this tape through my head during take off. The intellectual, statistical one that is.
