Even crazy old men enjoy life.

Just the other day I was sitting around with some friends talking about old trips we have taken. During the conversation we started talking about the interesting people we have meet. Even though I have not traveled around the world I have still meet amazing people.

Back in 2003 me and two friends took an impromtu bicycle ride from Ft. Lauderdale to Key West. When we arrived in Key West my tire had a flat, and we needed to find a place to get a new tube. We headed to the local K-Mart to get the tube and other supplies. While outside packing up our bikes, what seemed like a crazy old man came up to us. He first asked us where we rode from, after telling him he started in about his life.

Remember i thought he was a crazy old man, so was not trusting everything he said. First he starts telling us about how he traveled and lived all over mexico, and raised his kids out there. Now that i could believe. Next he tells us that he built a raft out of debris he found floating on the Hudson River in New York. I thought, well that's something a crazy man would do. Now what he said next i had a hard time to believe. He tells us that he took that raft across the Atlantic to France and back. He was the first and only person to do it, and it was filmed by National Geographic. That is when we told him it was nice meeting you, i was sure he had plenty of stories for us. Before we took off he told us to look at his website. So i took down the email address www.floatingneutrinos.com and said i would look at it.

When i finally got to a computer i looked it up and was very surprised to see all that this crazy old man has done with his life. Since then i have been inspired to built a raft of my own, one day i will do it.

Everytime someone tells me i should stop moving around and settle down, i remember that man and say hell no. If he is happy with his life we all can. Last year i read about a book called The Happiest Man In The World it is about Pappa Neutrino, the crazy old man i meet. Now i hope someday i will have that chance again to hear his stories. Until then i will listen to stories from crazy old men. You never know what advice they will have.
