the craigslist connection
|
after wrapping up the fishing season in Astoria, i wanted to drive down to San Francisco to visit a buddy of mine. i checked out the 'rideshare' on craigslist to see if i could help anybody out. it was my first time trying it, and it worked out pretty well. the first few people i talked with all flaked out, but finally i got two other guys lined up, Tony from seaside and Matt from portland, and a little bit of their stuff. also in portland, i picked up some new wheels and tires for a guy down here who had just had them stolen off of his toyota. it felt great to riding with the rig full, helping a couple of people out, instead of just me and my bags. now i'm trying to line up the rideshare going from San Francisco back east, which could be a little trickier. has anyone else tried this? |

Ha! I met many of you guys off craigslist writer gig postings..not to mention my car, some of my furniture and my last living situation. Ask around SF and most people have a similar story. It's the #66th most traffic'd site on the Internet. Insane. How long are you in SF, DSGangstah? My weekend is shot but we should grab beers next week if you're around..
I basically lived off Craigslist jobs for a year. Here's to freelance.
agreed. couchsurfing is rad.
Olivebeard wrote on the forums post that he's gotten just about everything he has on craigslist. Me too. I've never looked for a rideshare, though.
How was the end of the season? I've missed hearing from the high seas.
hi julie, thanks, i've missed contributing too, but the end of the season was not very blog-worthy. i guess this rideshare/couchsurfing deal is old hat to people, but i hadn't seen it before. a classic example of how working on the ocean for extended periods of time actually puts me behind reality. i remember not even knowing about 9/11 until 9/13.
My old roommate used craigslist rideshare all the time - she swears by it. I think lately she's also gotten into the rideshare function on Facebook...
love it. craigslist is awesome. couchsurfing.com is even better though.
