[CHANGING THE WORLD]
|
MY NAME is Claire Anne Rementilla. The way I would change the world would not be something tangible, costly, or pitch-fork-and-torches controversial. I will change the world by opening the eyes of people who have only lived to see one side of this world, this reality. When I become a travel journalist, I hope to start my own personal column. I would title it, “Beauty Despite–” And in this column, there will be an array of photographs, poetry, memoirs, & short stories all creatively intertwined with one another. When I travel, I want to go to many places; places that have a stigma upon them. A place where, generally, the world thinks is a sad, desolate, war struck or unimportant place. I will interview many adults and even children, take photographs of the true & unknown beauty of that place, publish it, & show the world that there can be beauty despite anything. For example, I could go to Kenya, a country that houses around 11 million orphans, & take fantastic photographs of sunrises and sunsets, family gatherings, children playing happily, perhaps a mother teacher her daughter how to cook. And from that, I will write & show the truth to all viewers, that people and places are never what they seem. I want the world to see both sides of life. And I hope to shine a new, hopeful light upon the places I visit, the people i’ve seen & laughed with. There truly is beauty & hope in this world, despite the wars, the famines, the droughts, the disease and the pain. ] I hope one day, my dream will come true. I know that here, in Matador, is where everything begins. |

beautiful thoughts...check out my friend's photography website - www.idioimagers.org - I think you will relate to his art.
soooo...any idea what you might want to do when you grow up?
seriously though, sweet. from your profile, it sounds like you could start at your high school.
:) Aw thanks.
Hm, I have a..slight idea. Something in International Relations / Journalism / Sociology all mushed together (for lack of better term) :) I'm sure i'll find a class that deals with that. As for a specific, I have no clue.
With all the political hype about health insurance and social security..sometimes I feel like I should try and find a job that still deals with traveling, but will provide me with benefits. Regardless, travel journalism/photography will always be a part of my life in some shape or form. :)
Back to what I want to do,
I'm studying abroad in the summer of 2009 in Japan for an inter-cultural / international studies program with http://www.worldcampus.org/mission.html.
Apparently we travel to a different city each week, and attend many cultural events, so i'm going to be writing a lot then!
Welcome Aki.Claire. Matador has definitely opened up roads and opportunities towards the dreams of many of us within this community.
Oh, of course! I'm sure it has. :)
I'm glad I stumbled upon this site.
Oh thank you so much Julie!
:) I'm looking forward to that day.
I'm glad to be here.
