But this isn't "Chippys" - May 2001

This has got to be one of my embarrassing travel moments.......

Before leaving for Edinburgh, Scotland, a colleague of mine who had schooled there asked if I could bring him back some brown sauce from 'a' chippys. I somehow subconsciously disregarded the 'a'.

So I spent an entire day walking around Edinburgh looking for 'Chippys'. Even walked into a fish-n-chips restaurant, saw the brown sauce he was talking about, looked around and said to myself, "But this isn't Chippys" and had lunch there.

So when I got back and told my colleague, he burst out laughing "Chippys is slang for a 'fish-n-chips' joint!'. I had practically walked past at least six 'Chippys' and ironically had lunch at one, and looked at the brown sauce saying to myself, "..but this isn't Chippys!"
