Ugandan Safari Part One

After I had already bought my $30 ticket, my uncle forbade me to take the bus from Nairobi to Kampala, Uganda, a 12 hr. journey. The main reason was because it departed at midnight from River Road, one of the sketchier parts of Nairobi. He also fed me with horror stories of falling asleep on the bus, getting chloroformed, and robbed or worse.

All in all, I was greatful, as he purchasd me a plane ticket instead, and I arrived in one piece after only 2 hours.

After an hour long taxi ride from Entebbe (where the airport is) to Kampala, I met Ryan at the backpacker place he had arranged in advance. The grounds were nice, lots of grass with vervet monkeys running about. Our "hostel" was more like an apartment with a private kitchen and livingroom; it was quite a nice change from my tent in Juba.

Ryan had also prebooked a safari through the southwest of Uganda. At 7am, the following day we were picked up by an Ugandan who was to be our guide/driver for the next 5 days. Very shortly we were off in a minivan on a very long long drive toward Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to trek for gorillas. On the way we stopped several times to see wild life.
