Unbelievable live reggae and rock music in Chiang Mai
|
When I got to the Chiang Mai province of Thailand, I expected to see deep jungle, beautiful temples and lots of authentic Thai culture…but I never expected to see rockin’ reggae music and witness a rendition of "Free Bird" that would make me play the air-guitar for the next three days. If you are in Chiang Mai and looking for something fun to do at night, I would highly recommend heading to Riverside Restaurant and Bar. This place is great and had live music, but walking down the street, which runs along the river, you notice that everyone has live music. Two places down from Riverside Pub had this group of Thai rastas, playing some awesome reggae. Then, the owner of the bar, who should seriously be a fucking rockstar, came on with his band and killed it for a solid hour of textbook rock and roll…from Jimmy to The Eagles. This guy was incredible. I bought his cd, but didn’t catch his name. You can tell the guy is kind of a local legend. And for good reason...who else could possibly play guitar like that in N. Thailand! Just goes to show you…there is amazing live music to see all over the world and sometimes it makes an appearance where you’d least expect it. Keep exploring and you’ll die with happy ears… If you go: Just get in a cab and tell them "Riverside Pub"...it's a small towm. |
