"...then I'll take her to Zanzibar"
|
We arrived on Sunday, after taking a ferry over from Dar (Molly, for the recored it took 3 hours). The ferry was interesting on its own, full way beyond capacity, and everyone slept for almost the whole trip, just passed out cold anyway they could find room, on floors, on ralings, underneath benches and tables (Bellows style). Sara and I's living arrangement is somekind of bizaro-world version of the real world; three americans (us + Mellisa), two male arabic teachers from egypt who speak no english but are incredibly friendly and sleep almost all the time, except for when they cooking up some totally weird bean and grain dishes, and a young blond dutch women who is living here semi-permanently with her Masai boyfriend who is always in full Masai clothing at like 7 am in the kitchen with me, and Dr. Duchi, a charming tanzanian doctor (pathologist, dermatologist and psychiatrist) who lives on the first floor and is just about the cutest old man ever, he took us to dermatology clinic today (you've never really seen fungal infections until you've seen one here), its a trip. |
