Pongwe, Mellisa arrives and the miracle of Birth

We spent last weekend out at Pongwe, one of the dopest beaches in the world, white sand, endless in both directions, crabs running around and waves crashing on the outer sandbars. Our friend Mosses, we are staying with his father, the incredible Dr. Duchi in Stonetown, has a small collection of beach bungalows on the Pongwe beach, just north of town, on the far eastern side of Zanzibar island.

There was swimming, reading, eating, etc, you get the idea, its the beach...

After waiting for the dalla-dalla (local van, they can fit close to 20 people in one here) for close to two hours to get back to town, a girl we were waiting with was fed up, called her boyfriend and we caught a ride back with him, worked out really well as he took us right to airport where Mellisa had just arrived, flew on a single prop plane (her luggage had to go seperate and she had a window the opened).

We spent the next few days just checking out Stonetown, there is a film festival here this weekend (lasts for two weeks) all documentary films from the east african coast (Banff for the beach).

This weekend we are headed to Kendwa, with the full moon approaching this Saturday there is a huge full moon party planned, should be blast. Also, Alexander arrives this weekend, nothing like having another Red Sox fan around.

We made friends with Star (says hi to pete, will and elaina), sort of the Zanzibar version of Andy Huizingah, hope you are reading this, really you two have so much in common its kind of weird, Sara actually called it, but I had thought of it too, for real. Same movies, same reacreational pastimes, same voice, although his Swahili is a little better. He took us out the Pange sandbar just south of stonetown, we did a little snorkeling, and then we cooked him dinner (great fish here) and taught him to play hearts, another reason Alexander should come soon.

Oh, last note, Sara saw 2 ceseareans and a bunch of NSVDs today, shocked her silly, quite a way to spend a morning in paradise.
