Killer bees, no really
|
A young girl was rushed from emergency to the ICU yesterday after being attacked by african killer bees two days ago. She was at a picnic with her family when their soccer ball disturbed the hive, two adults died on the spot from anaphylactic shock and two more adults are in the hospital now with acute renal failure. The girl coded, went into atrial fibrillation and despite over an hour of resceitation from the best doctors here, she didn't make it. She was covered in bee stings on her face, arms and in her mouth. Its unclear what exactly caused the death, post-mortems are not done here, but rhabdomyolosis, renal failure or direct cardiomyocyte toxicity are all likely possibilites. So, between the rampant malaria, the HIV and the love of jaywalking (a national sport here, with daily accidents) and now killer bees this is a seriously dangerous place. Also, there have been swarms of grasshoppers around the hospital lately, not really dangerous but they attract flocks of these giant ugly birds, that look like they could eat a baby. Really, when does it stop, next there will be fire breathing lizards and giant moths attacking Mwanza from lake Victoria. |
