Sexy Sweden: Four days in Stockholm
|
As we had expected, Sweden is beautiful, clean, crime-free, well engineered, efficient and, in a word—SEXY. We got into Stockholm on Saturday afternoon. Immediately I was blown away by the architecture. The standard 6 story apartment and office buildings that cover the city are different shades of pastel colors and they all have uniquely shaped copper roofs that end in points that reminded me of those on the Kremlin in Moscow. Everything is so clean, and everyone was happy, helpful and super friendly. People were SO nice to us that we were joking that they were going to break into song and choreographed dance at any second—like a Broadway musical—singing Stock-Holm! Stock-Holm! Everything is perfect in Stock-Holm! Perhaps people were so happy because we got there on the first week of Summer. Apparently it had only been warm for a couple days before we had arrived. People in Stockholm tolerate a long, cold, dark winter and you can see the city spring into a metamorphosis of thawing once the weather gets nice. Saturday night the bars were packed—so packed that we had trouble getting into the popular joints and opted instead for bar hopping all over the area around the Slussen Metro stop (which is a good place to drink with lots of young people). We went out with our host, Leon whose floor we slept on the whole time we were in Stockholm. We were meeting all kinds of cool peeps till 5am, when the bar finally kicked us out, at which point we retrieved a bottle of champagne from Leon’s house and walked down to his neighborhood soccer field with a ball and took penalty shots on each other, while drinking champagne out of the bottle, until 7am. Needless to say we got a late start on Sunday, but it was so warm and beautiful that we rallied and took a bus down to the main Marina area. We had a perfect lunch at a dope restaurant/bar that I’ll cover on Matador, which sits literally IN the water. We sat there eating steak and frits, watching the beautiful people walk by and the fancy boats meander through the canal. Paradise. After lunch we rented bikes and took a long ride around one of the islands which I would highly recommend to anyone on a nice day. The bike path winds along the coast for at least 15 miles or so, passing different little marinas, state owned mansions and pristine fields of grass and wild flowers. Stockholm is kind of like what I imaged heaven to look like (when I was 7 and believed in heaven)…lots of trees, water, sunshine—and drop dead gorgeous angels walking by every 5 minutes. Stockholm’s abundant population of hot women rivals even Buenos Aires—and no, they’re not ALL blonde (but lots of them are). The rest are dark skinned brunettes with bright green eyes…insanely gorgeous. It seemed to us that we’d see a crazy amount of women because the 18 year old girls dress like they’re 26 and there are tons of 45 year old women that look 30 and will make you hit your buddy so he doesn’t miss her as she walks by. Anyone guy who gets to grow up in Stockholm has it pretty good. Which is why it surprised me that most young people—men and women--who are born and raised in Stockholm seemed bored and asked us “Out of all the places you could travel, why did you come here, to Stockholm? There’s nothing exciting going on here!” The grass is always greener I guess… |
