Bitten by the Travel Bug: Blessed by a Paca in Peru
|
Hmmm, my first travel blog. Ok, here's the deal. I first traveled out of the country just last year. It doesn't seem that long ago! I went to Peru for a week and got bitten by the travel bug bad. I live to travel. Life? Who needs a job when you can wander across the world? Well, anyways, the point is, my traveling experience is limited, but my dreams are huge. But hopefully attainable. Next spring I'm going to Spain for ten days. I'm extremely psyched about that, but it seems like a long way away. And that summer, the summer of 2009, I'm scraping up all of my measly college savings and going vagabonding across Europe for the entire summer, or as long as the money lasts. I'm basically living for the day. Well, truly. Trying to squish as many classes as I can this year, to save money, and working two jobs, to save money, and even researching starting my own travelblog wesite (I love to write and I definitely want to record my entire trip!) So yeah, it's taken over my life. People have to keep reminding me that it's still over a year away. Eh. So anyways, back to the story that I was going to tell. During my incredible trip to Peru, our group (yes, I was with a tour group...ergh) got the opportunity to be blessed by a paca, an Incan shaman. He made a spell type of thing by putting various objects into a bundle (llama fat, a candy image of their Mamapacha (I hope I spelled that right) coca leaves, and other representative objects. Then he blessed each one of us by waving this packet around and touching it to our foreheads. It was so interesting. I don't know if the blessing worked, but I'll let you know.:-) I have pictures somewhere, if I can find them. I'll post them up here soon. I think it was that moment that I really decided that I wanted to travel everywhere and see everything. How amazing is it to be able to see and learn about so many different cultures! Everywhere you go, people live in so many different ways. I want to learn about all of them. Well, that was my $0.02 worth. Hope you enjoyed the story of the beginning of my travel fever. Ciao, senoritaburrito
